NEWS: Vineyard Wind, country's first large-scale offshore wind project, finishes construction

Another wind win: The final blades are now in place at the country’s first large-scale offshore wind operation. (WBUR)

  • Last Friday, two wind projects hindered by the Trump administration made meaningful strides: Revolution Wind started sending power to the grid, and Vineyard Wind reached the end of construction.

  • It’ll be a few weeks before all of Vineyard Wind’s 62 turbines are spinning. But the project is predicted to save Massachusetts ratepayers $1.4B over the first two decades of operation.

  • As for the others? Dozens of stalled offshore wind projects have low odds of kicking off construction while President Trump remains in power—but things could change in the coming years.
