Delivering Grid Confidence: How the ACCC InfoCore® System Is Redefining Transmission Line Integrity

In the current age of grid modernization, utilities are tasked with a monumental challenge: upgrade critical infrastructure to meet rising demand, integrate variable renewable energy, and bolster reliability - all while maintaining safety and cost-efficiency. Yet, despite billions invested globally in high-performance conductors, utilities have historically lacked an efficient, field-deployable method to verify whether these assets were installed without damage.

CTC Global’s ACCC InfoCore® System directly addresses this gap. By embedding optical fibers inside the carbon composite core of the ACCC® Conductor, this innovation allows line crews and asset managers to verify core integrity in real time, during the most critical stages of installation.

As of 2025, the ACCC InfoCore® System has been successfully deployed on five continents, transforming how utilities think about installation assurance, risk mitigation, and asset management.

Optical Innovation for a Critical Function

Unlike traditional post-installation inspection techniques - such as magnetic flux scans, X-ray imaging, or CT scans - the ACCC InfoCore® System uses a far simpler, faster, and safer approach. Optical fibers integrated into the ACCC® Conductor’s core transmit infrared light, allowing operators to confirm the conductor is free of structural damage like crushing or delamination.

A compact transmitter is placed on one end of the conductor, while a field-ready receiver and tablet interface analyze the signal on the opposite end. This non-destructive test typically takes less than five minutes and can be performed on-site by trained linemen using a portable inspection kit.

Inspection data is logged and uploaded to a secure cloud database, giving asset managers a full audit trail of integrity checks across the length of the line - whether during tensioning, after splicing, or at any other critical juncture.

Expanding Global Footprint

From the deserts of California to the mountains of Central China, and from the dense forests of Europe to the islands of Southeast Asia, the InfoCore® System has been deployed in varied terrain, climates, and system configurations. A few recent highlights demonstrate the system’s growing role in global grid modernization:

Southern California Edison (USA)

SCE recently completed a 230 kV reconductoring project between the Laguna Bell and Mesa No.1 substations, utilizing Fort Worth-size ACCC® Conductor with the InfoCore® System. Supplied by Lamifil with hardware from Dervaux, the project sought to boost transmission capacity and operational resilience in the Los Angeles Basin.

CTC Global’s regional services team - including North America Service Manager Rickey Hayes and several certified Master Installers - supported SCE’s crews in successfully verifying the conductor core throughout the installation. The result: a smooth, incident-free commissioning and improved assurance for the utility’s long-term grid performance.

PT PLN (Indonesia)

Indonesia’s state utility, PLN, completed its first ACCC InfoCore® System deployment on the 10.9 km Mojosongo–Banyudono line in Central Java. This double-circuit, 150 kV upgrade required new conductor installation over long spans - including a 466-meter highway crossing. With InfoCore inspections carried out at each stage, the utility achieved a high-confidence upgrade while maintaining operational continuity and safety.

Elia Group (Belgium)

To support a new data center near Mons, Belgian TSO Elia utilized the InfoCore® System during an accelerated reconductoring project. Given the need to recommission the line daily, the ability to quickly verify conductor integrity each evening minimized operational risk. Seventeen field inspections were logged by mid-March, with all results stored in Elia’s digital project database for future reference.

Creos (Luxembourg)

Creos deployed the ACCC InfoCore® System along a 26.4 km stretch of its 220 kV Roost–Flebour–Bauler line, traversing rugged and forested terrain. With limited access and constrained stringing conditions, the risk of conductor damage during payout was significant. Using InfoCore, field teams conducted targeted inspections in areas of concern, adding a new layer of installation assurance to a complex project with major ampacity upgrades.

IPTO (Greece)

In one of the most transformative transmission projects in Southern Europe, Greece’s IPTO selected ACCC® Cardinal Conductor with InfoCore® technology for the new Korinthos–Koumoundourou 400 kV line. With over 1,200 km of conductor and 80 km of double-circuit towers under construction, the project is central to Greece’s decarbonization and grid expansion strategy. InfoCore-enabled inspections are being conducted in conjunction with CTC Global’s manufacturing and field support teams, reinforcing quality control throughout the installation lifecycle.

Shaanxi Electric (China)

In November 2024, the Jizipu Branch Line upgrade marked China’s first use of the InfoCore® System. The project involved replacing older wire with ACCC® Silvassa Conductor in a remote, high-altitude section of Shaanxi Province. Despite access challenges and a compressed schedule, crews completed installation and verification in just over 10 hours - proving the system’s agility and effectiveness under pressure.

Aligning with Smart Asset Management

While the ACCC InfoCore® System is not a real-time operational monitoring tool, it plays a crucial role in the broader transition toward data-informed asset management. By providing documented proof of installation quality, utilities can reduce the likelihood of failure due to unseen damage - and avoid costly, unnecessary rework or re-tensioning.

When InfoCore inspection data is integrated into a utility’s digital asset management system, it becomes a foundation for more predictive maintenance, better outage planning, and smarter capital deployment. This aligns with a growing global trend: investing not just in stronger grid components, but in smarter infrastructure ecosystems that prioritize transparency, accountability, and performance.

Building Confidence in the Energy Transition

Whether helping SCE improve capacity in a densely populated urban corridor, or supporting grid upgrades in Java, Greece, or Luxembourg, the ACCC InfoCore® System consistently delivers what utilities value most: confidence.

As the global power sector faces an unprecedented wave of electrification, the consequences of conductor failure or unknown damage can be severe. With InfoCore, that risk is dramatically reduced. Utilities can validate conductor integrity before energization, ensure correct handling during installation, and document every step of the process.

When paired with CTC Global’s high-efficiency ACCC® Conductor, which already reduces thermal sag, minimizes line losses, and increases ampacity, the InfoCore® System completes a value proposition that is compelling, field-proven, and urgently needed.

A Stronger, Smarter Grid - One Inspection at a Time

With deployments now confirmed on five continents, the ACCC InfoCore® System is emerging as a new global standard for high-performance conductor installation. It represents a simple idea executed with precision: empower utilities to see what was once invisible - and act on it before it becomes a problem.

For utilities looking to future-proof their transmission investments, the ACCC InfoCore® System is more than a field tool. It’s a strategic enabler, helping the industry deliver power more safely, efficiently, and intelligently than ever before.
