They come with built-in sensors to monitor temperature, gases, and electrical stress; communication with SCADA/cloud; and sometimes even edge computing for faster decision-making. This allows failures to be predicted, downtime to be avoided, and equipment lifespan to be extended.

2. Energy efficiency and sustainability

Stricter regulations are requiring transformers with lower losses, safer and more environmentally friendly insulation materials, biodegradable insulating fluids or alternatives to mineral oil, and cores made from more advanced materials.

3. Urbanization + renewables + decentralized grids

  • Expansion of urban networks requires compact (or modular) transformers that can fit into restricted spaces.

  • Integration of renewable sources and distributed generation requires transformers capable of handling variable or bidirectional power flows.

4. Market growth & heavy investment

The global power transformer market is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 6–7% according to several studies.
