Make a Splash Photo and Video Contest
- Open to submissions for both hydropower and marine energy until November 17, 2023.
- Submit your best photos or videos showcasing water power technologies, the people behind them, and the communities that benefit.
- Winners can receive up to $2,000!
- This excludes federal agencies and contractors who are eligible for recognition but not cash prizes.

- If you’d like to share the contest with your network, please see our engagement toolkit that includes messaging, sample social media, and graphics/videos for amplification on your channels.
ORISE Marine Energy Fellowships
- The annual application for the Marine Energy Graduate Student Research Program is now open and closes December 1, 2023.
- Do you work with Masters or PhD students interested in marine energy?
- Encourage them to register for the informational webinar for potential fellows on October 24, 2023.
- Interested in hosting a fellow? Please confirm interest with WPTO by emailing [email protected]. Interested host institutions are advertised by WPTO.
- Fellows are fully funded by DOE.
- Hosts will mentor fellows.
- To be included on a list of potential host institutions, please provide:
- Mentor name and primary email,
- Organization and department, and
- 3-4 sentence overview of the organization’s primary research interest and/or potential project for the fellow.

- Fellowships open to current Masters or PhD students to work at selected host institutions and organizations for 6 months to a year.
Upcoming Funding Opportunity to Advance Marine Energy Research at U.S. Colleges and Universities
- WPTO released a Notice of Intent on August 24, 2023 in which the office announced intent to issue a $14.5 million funding opportunity to support marine energy research at U.S. institutions of higher education.
- The FOA will include a topic area focused on aquaculture with co-funding from DOE’s Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO).
- Keep an eye out for the FOA which will soon be released!
