Houston-based XGS Energy just proved its closed-loop geothermal system can run reliably at commercial depth, logging 3K hours at California’s Coso field. (Canary Media)
The prototype performed within 2% of predictions, giving financial backers confidence that XGS can deliver steady baseload power without water loss.
Backed by $55M in funding so far, XGS says its thermally conductive materials boost heat extraction by up to 50%—and it already has 3 GW of projects lined up, mostly in the West where water is scarce and data center demand is booming.
