NEWS: With RPS already met, Arizona ends customer-funded renewable energy power contracts

Arizona's utility regulators voted unanimously to scrap the state's renewable energy mandate, along with the customer surcharges that funded it. (Solar Power World)

  • Ratepayers have shelled out more than $2.3B over 20 years, and by 2025 electric utilities reached the required 15% share of energy sourced from renewables. Now, the Arizona Corporation Commission has decided that the “robust” renewables portfolio can stand on its own.

  • The message: the economics work, the subsidies stop, and the next phase is market-driven.
