Because solar projects can be planned and connected in a fraction of the time required for fossil fuel or nuclear plants, some GOP leaders (from Katie Miller and Kellyanne Conway to Elon Musk and Newt Gingrich) are rethinking solar with a new POV: It solves rolling blackouts, increases grid reliability, and lowers the cost of energy—making it a potential key to achieving President Trump’s goal of AI dominance over China.
The White House appears to be listening. Interior recently allowed several utility-scale solar projects it had previously blocked to resume the permitting process. Even Energy Sec. Chris Wright, who previously called solar a "parasite," recently admitted it has a commercial role in adding affordable energy to the grid.
