NEWS: New Jersey delays JCP&L offshore wind transmission project 30 months

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities voted to delay (by 2.5 years) Jersey Central Power & Light’s $1B transmission upgrade to connect the state’s first offshore wind projects. (Utility Dive)

  • Their reasoning? Federal policy uncertainty and ratepayer protection. The move follows the Trump administration’s pattern of offshore wind rollbacks, including revoking permits and moving to rescind designated federal wind energy areas.

  • New Jersey’s first planned offshore wind project, the 1.5-GW Atlantic Shores 1 once slated for 2027, has previously requested to terminate its offshore renewable energy credits, citing the federal policy shift.
