In California, the sun is officially eating fossil fuels for lunch—and now, thanks to batteries, it’s on the menu for dinner too. New EIA data shows that, while the state’s total electricity generation has grown 8% since 2020, natural gas burn has plummeted 18%, largely because utility-scale solar output has nearly doubled in the same timeframe.
