A startup just launched a $3,800 heat pump that can be installed in an hour. (Heatmap)
How it works: Merino Energy’s Mono heat pump packs all components into a single indoor unit, which plugs into a standard 120V-outlet.
The caveats: The Mono is designed for rooms 350 sq. ft. and under, and costs for multiple rooms would add up. Plus, it’s tuned for the mild climate in California (where a state target aims for 6M heat pump installations by 2030). So it likely wouldn’t prove efficient in extreme heat or cold.
