Corporate buyers are aggressively pivoting to “clean firm” energy. (CEBA)
The surge: According to CEBA data, corporate buyers have committed to over 6 GW of new clean firm capacity since 2021. Remarkably, more than half of that volume (3.4 GW) was announced in just the first 3 quarters of 2025.
The shift: While solar and wind still dominate, “clean firm” deals—nuclear, geothermal, hydro, and fusion—jumped to 17% of total corporate announcements this year (+8% YoY), signaling a need for always-on power as reliability becomes king.
The hotspot: PJM is the dominant target, hosting a third of these projects despite its notorious interconnection backlogs. It’s proof that for data center operators, location matters more than almost anything else.
