With tariff turmoil, imported solar modules will likely grow too pricey for most US buyers. (pv magazine)
This year, solar material imports will likely come with a bevy of fees, including Section 232 tariffs and a 10% import duty slapped on by President Trump after a Supreme Court loss on IEEPA “reciprocal” tariffs.Â
The bright side: By the end of 2025, US module makers reached 45 GW of annual production capacity—enough to furnish the estimated 43 GW capacity installed domestically last year. Domestic production could reach 60 GW capacity in 2026, and even up to 80 GW in 2027. But many planned cell factories may not be up and running until late this year.
