ComEd is blazing the trail toward speedier community solar installations. (Canary Media)
Since late 2025, ComEd has fast-tracked 50+ MW of community solar through flexible interconnection. This allows projects to connect to a technically "full" grid in exchange for curtailing output during rare peak hours, avoiding pricey grid upgrades. It's the country’s first large-scale program of its kind.
What’s next: The utility plans to hit 100 MW/year and 650 MW by 2031. Maryland, Massachusetts, and New York are already adapting the model—and with the July tax credit safe harbor deadline looming, speed is the whole ballgame.
