NEWS: Final Senate megabill to ease wind and solar phaseout

Senate Republicans are 1) reportedly scrapping the controversial excise tax on wind and solar and 2) postponing phaseouts of existing tax breaks as part of their final version of the budget megabill. (Politico)

  • A last-minute amendment lets projects started within one year of the bill’s passage still qualify for IRA tax credits—if they’re placed in service by the end of 2027.

  • Still, the bill remains largely interpreted as a means of slowing growth in clean energy by forcing businesses to abandon projects.

  • Also: This compromise tossed out a heavily debated new excise tax for wind and solar projects that had ties to China.
