Federal officials clarified that the Esmeralda 7 solar megaproject in Nevada hasn’t been canceled, but just taking a new route forward. (Nevada Independent)
The Department of Interior said it and project developers “agreed to change their approach,” shifting from a single, programmatic review to separate assessments for each solar and storage project.
NextEra Energy, Avantus, and Leeward Energy say they remain committed to building their portions, which together could deliver more than 6 GW of solar and 3 GW of storage across roughly 62,000 acres.
Big picture: The projects would tie into NV Energy’s Greenlink West transmission line, delayed by military airspace conflicts but ultimately designed to move power for 4.8M homes.
