NEWS: Feds: Massive Nevada solar project could still move forward with different approach

Federal officials clarified that the Esmeralda 7 solar megaproject in Nevada hasn’t been canceled, but just taking a new route forward. (Nevada Independent)

  • The Department of Interior said it and project developers “agreed to change their approach,” shifting from a single, programmatic review to separate assessments for each solar and storage project.

  • NextEra Energy, Avantus, and Leeward Energy say they remain committed to building their portions, which together could deliver more than 6 GW of solar and 3 GW of storage across roughly 62,000 acres.

  • Big picture: The projects would tie into NV Energy’s Greenlink West transmission line, delayed by military airspace conflicts but ultimately designed to move power for 4.8M homes.
