ERCOT’s record demand is being met by…record renewables. (EIA)
Texas power demand hit a new high in 2025—up 5% YoY and 23% since 2021. ERCOT met much of that growth with solar, wind, and battery storage.
Solar generation jumped 50% in the first 9 months of 2025 to 45 TWh, nearly 4X 2021 levels. Wind output rose 4% to 87 TWh. And together, renewables supplied 36% of ERCOT’s total demand—the grid’s highest share ever.
Looking ahead: ERCOT expects demand to climb another 14% in 2026, the fastest growth of any US grid—underscoring how fast the Texas system is changing, and how much of that growth renewables are already carrying.
