NEWS: California sues Trump administration over 'Solar for All' program cancellation

California joined a multi-state coalition and sued the Trump administration over the canceled $7B “Solar for All” program. (LA Times)

  • The two lawsuits were filed against the EPA after it abruptly terminated the $7B Solar for All program, which aimed to help nearly 1M low-income households install rooftop and community solar. Administrator Lee Zeldin called the program a “boondoggle” with too many middlemen.

  • The states argue the cancellation breaches congressional funding commitments and violates federal law, including the Administrative Procedure Act. They’re seeking to reinstate the program and recover damages.

  • California lost nearly $250M in grants, including $200M for community solar projects offering 20% bill discounts to low- and middle-income households.
