Australia’s utility-scale solar surge is running out of steam. (Bloomberg)
New data shows only 1.4 GW of utility-scale solar will come online this year, down nearly 30% from last year and 40% below the 2023 peak. Projections suggest the buildout could slide to less than 750 MW a year after 2030.
The slowdown stems from clogged grid connections, drawn-out permitting, and local resistance. At the same time, rooftop solar has flooded the market, sending wholesale prices to zero or below and eroding project economics.
