Japan’s largest offshore wind farm is up and running while Vestas announces memorandum of understanding to build manufacturing facility in Japan!

Early last week, Japan’s largest offshore wind farm, Kitakyushu Hibikinada, aka Wind KitaQ 25, began operating in the Hibikinada sea off the coast of Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The wind farm is operated by Hibiki Wind Energy and supported by among other companies, J-POWER and Kyuden Mirai Energy. The 220-megawatt (MW) project includes 25 9.6-MW Vestas V174 turbines. Installation began in March 2023. The power off taker is a subsidiary company of Kyushu Electric Power.

Yesterday (March 9), Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas signed a memorandum of cooperation with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to build a wind-blade manufacturing facility by 2029. Vestas signed additional memorandums of understanding with Nippon Express Co., Ltd. and DENZAI Co., Ltd. to support the expansion of wind power and strengthen the country’s supply chain. Powering good!
