Greenwashing

Greenwashing

A fact that is worrying today is the emergence of opportunists (who should be removed from the market).

Greenwashing, the practice of companies that appear to be ecologically responsible, but are not in fact, gains prominence.

In Brazil, of course, this practice has already emerged. And with "robustness". An emblematic example is I-REC.

I-REC Certificates, in essentially "thermal" countries, make sense because they show that their holders have migrated from "dirty" sources to "green" ones.

Here in Brazil it doesn't make any sense. Firstly, our matrix is primarily green. Secondly, there is no economic sense to contract energy from thermal plants, which are way more expensive than the green ones.

In other words, everyone contracts essentially green energy. All energy is dispatched by the ONS (Independent System Operator)  and thermal plants are only activated as a "last case" and regardless of consumers' wishes.

Greenwashing was adopted because we are opportunists (in this case in a bad sense).
