Clean Hydrogen Monitor
Industrial off-takers are intensifying their commitment to clean H2, with significant announcements in the ammonia, steel, and refining sectors.Â
Europe's 2022 hydrogen demand reached 8.2 Mt, particularly for emerging applications and greenfield initiatives
Key considerations:
1. The cumulative announced consumption of clean hydrogen in Europe by 2030 is 7,1 MT/year based on 300 potential projectsÂ
2. The main growth demand is concentrated in four key industrial sectors: Ammonia (2,1 MT/yr), Steel (2 MT/yr), Methanol (1,3 MT/yr), Refining (1,2 MT/yr). Â
Why does Algeria should focus its investments for the export of green hydrogen by pipeline and not evaluate the possibilities of exporting Green Ammonia, Green Steel, Green Methanol/efuels,  Green Refining derivative products  that not only generate much higher added value, while creating jobs and contributing to the local economical development through a sustainable and competitive transition1
The demand will be concentrated in mainly four countries Spain, France, Germany and Sweden. Â
Fig 1.4 indicates that amongst the countries involved in the South2corridor only Germany  has a strong percentage of clean hydrogen (49% of total) while Austria is a 11% of total while Italy is at 1% of total. At the same time, the projections for Spain are 100%, Portugal (97%) Ireland (100%), Denmark (100%) , Estonia (100%).  To note that Spain and Portugal have the same potential for renewable sources as Algeria.
