NEWS: Trump administration finalizes $1 billion loan for Three Mile Island nuclear plant restart

DOE’s Loan Programs Office has finalized a $1B conditional loan commitment to Constellation Energy to help reopen the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania. (Washington Examiner)

  • The Trump administration is making good on its promise to devote considerable LPO funding to nuclear. “We want to bring as much net addition of dispatchable, reliable electricity on the grid to stop these price rises in electricity and increase American capacity to generate firm, reliable electricity,” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said.

  • Constellation initially expected to bring Crane Clean Energy Center (the new name for Three Mile Island) online sometime in 2028. But with support from Microsoft and approval for an early interconnection request from PJM, Constellation is shortening the timeline by a year.
