NEWS: Perry nuclear plant seeks to operate into 2060s, as Meta deal boosts output

Meta’s hunger for nuclear power is giving an Ohio reactor a second life—potentially all the way to 2066. (Cleveland)

  • Backed by a long-term PPA with Meta, Vistra’s Perry nuclear power plant is pursuing another 20-year license extension from the NRC (it got its first last summer) and a 15% output boost—adding ~200 MW through equipment upgrades rolled out across five years.

  • The big picture: Ohio now ranks fifth in the nation for data centers with 200+ online or planned. As a result, regulators want data centers to shoulder more upfront costs for transmission and generation upgrades.
