Uranium startup Standard Nuclear has raised $140M to prove the US can mass-produce advanced fuel. (Bloomberg)
The Tennessee-based startup, which started fabricating Triso fuel for advanced reactors this month, says it has the biggest production capacity in the country—about 500 kg of Triso per year, currently.
The fresh capital will help Standard Nuclear launch production at two additional facilities slated to go online later this year, each designed to add 1 metric ton of annual capacity to the supply chain.Â
Why it matters: Supply chain. Dozens of companies are designing advanced reactors, but they’re useless without this specific fuel supply—which Standard Nuclear wants to produce domestically.
