State leaders want to host sprawling campuses serving the entire nuclear lifecycle…including dealing with high-level waste. They aren’t alone: Dozens of states have shown interest in hosting such campuses, according to DOE, and South Carolina and Washington state officials have rolled out resolutions in favor.
The bigger question: Whether this “nuclear mega-city” model can finally loosen the decades-long impasse around nuclear waste—or just repackage the same old issue with a shinier wrapper.
