Hong Chun is the Director of the Engineering Services at Sentient Energy. He leads his team in analyzing distribution systems, performing measurement and verification (M&V), and developing optimized Volt-VAR control solutions. He has analyzed more than 1000 distribution circuit models, SCADA, and AMI data. Prior to joining Sentient Energy, he worked as a protection and automation engineer at SEL. During his time there, he was involved in distribution circuit synchro phasor testing, deployment, and commissioning. Additionally, he developed a custom protection scheme to detect and trip falling conductors to prevent wildfires. Furthermore, he actively participates as a member of the IEEE Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) Task Force, where he leads the data cleaning section. Hong Chun holds an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Washington State University, and his research interests include voltage optimization, DER integration, power system modeling, and simulation.
