Peter Asmus has over 34 years of deep experience analyzing, forecasting and writing and speaking about cutting edge energy and related environmental topics. He is author of four books: In Search of Environmental Excellence (1990, SImon & Schuster); Reinventing Electric Utilities (1997, Island Press); Reaping the Wind (2001, Island Press); Introduction to Energy in California (2009, University of California Press). For 12 years, Peter worked For Guidehouse Insights (previously Navigant Research/Pike Research), creating the world's first global data set on microgrids. He also defined the methodology to forecast future growth in capacity and revenue and did the same for other emerging platforms to manage distributed energy resources (DER) such as virtual power plants (VPPs.) Among his clients were governmental agencies (California Energy Commission and National Renewable Energy Laboratory), non-governmental organizations (World Bank and Center for ENergy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies) and a long list of private sector players including ABB, EDF, ENGIE, GE, Horizon Power, Schneider Electric, Siemens and others. His new roles include serving as Adjunct Faculty as a Senior Advisor on Microgrid Strategy and Thought Leadership for the Alaska Center for Energy and Power. (He also serves as the Executive DIrector of the Alaska Microgrid Group, a non-profit leveraging the pioneering experience of Alaska utilities in developing microgrids. He also serves currently as Director of Strategic Marketing for AutoGrid, a VPP platform provider.
