John is a director of Offshore Wave Energy Ltd (OWEL). He served in the UK Merchant Navy before degenerating into an academic. He holds an Extra Master Certificate and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree. He is a Fellow and Gold Medallist of the Royal Institute of Navigation and a Fellow of the Nautical Institute.John has conducted many consultancy commissions concerned with maritime safety and protection of the marine environment for legal, industrial and government interests, and he is the author of many books, papers and articles.
