Stan has worked in the energy area since 1978, including stints as the fuel supply manager for Austin Energy, manager of fuel analysis for the Texas Public Utility Commission, and as a consultant in the electric, coal, and natural gas areas. Before retiring from the federal government in December 2018 he was a senior energy analyst with the Congressional Research Service and the manager responsible for electric power, coal, uranium, and renewable data at the U.S. Energy Information Administration. In 2020 Stan taught a graduate-level energy policy class at George Washington University. He is currently working part-time as an energy consultant with KeyLogic.
