Xcel Energy has filed a “first-of-its-kind” plan with state regulators to build up to 200 MW of distributed battery capacity across Minnesota by 2028. (Utility Dive)
The proposal seeks PUC approval for a budget between $152M (50 MW) and $430M (200 MW). Xcel would deploy 1–3 MW batteries at strategic locations spanning local businesses, nonprofits, and industrial sites.
Xcel says the network would boost reliability without costly grid upgrades and marks a major step in integrating DER into system planning.
