A Canadian startup just got a big boost to turn ocean motion into clean power. (Interesting Engineering)
Voltai, based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, raised $1.3M in pre-seed funding to scale its top-like electrostatic generator—a device that converts wave and ship movement into electricity.
Unlike bulky buoy systems, Voltai’s compact design can mount directly on ships or offshore platforms without drag, creating onboard power from natural motion. The company says it could help ships cut emissions and generate continuous clean power at sea.
