NEWS: The DOE is handing out $100M to bulk up utility cybersecurity.

  • The details: The agency announced that it’s distributing the funding to nonprofits that offer cybersecurity support to electric co-ops, municipal utilities, and small IOUs. The awardees must partner with six (or more) electric utilities to offer cybersecurity assessments, workforce training, and more.

  • Yes, but: The agency has pressed pause on a related Biden-era program that offered direct funding and technical assistance to these utilities. Bills currently sitting in Congress are pushing to revive it (and distribute $250M over five years).
