Speaking of the final frontier…startup Star Catcher Industries just broke a world record for wireless energy transmission, edging closer to creating the first orbital power grid. (Bloomberg)
During tests at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, the company beamed 1.1 kW of power over 1 kilometer using an infrared laser—the most electricity ever wirelessly transmitted on Earth.
With $50M in customer contracts already signed, Star Catcher says its “artificial sun” could someday power orbital infrastructure like data centers and lunar missions. It plans to launch a demo satellite next year aboard a SpaceX rideshare.
