Puget Sound Energy is testing AI-enabled “smart” sensors to boost grid capacity without new lines. (POWER Mag)
The “Neuron” sensors—made by Norway’s Heimdall Power—collect live data on temperature, current, sag, wind, and weather, helping operators safely push more power through existing lines.
The project, which uses both drones and traditional crews for installation, could unlock up to 50% more transmission capacity by adjusting limits in real time rather than relying on static safety margins.
