MISO could save $27B in system costs by 2035 by adding 11 GW of battery storage, according to a new report. (Utility Dive)
MISO currently has about 125 MW (with an M) of batteries on a grid with a 127 GW (with a G) peak load. California, by comparison, has 13 GW on a 52 GW system.
By the numbers: Average wholesale prices are on track to rise $1.40/MWh over the next decade (adding about $1.2B to overall electricity costs) without additional battery storage. Batteries would cut MISOβs peak-hour power prices by two-thirds ($245/MWh β $86/MWh).
