NEWS: Microsoft exploring using advanced power lines to make data centers more energy-efficient

Microsoft is experimenting with high-temperature superconductor cables inside its data centers. (Reuters)

  • The tech: Developed by VEIR, these ceramic-based lines can carry massive amounts of electricity with far less loss and bulk than traditional copper or aluminum.

  • Microsoft’s goal: dramatically increase power density inside data centers without building new substations or expanding physical footprints.
