NEWS: Duke expands demand response programs in South Carolina, citing new law, heat waves

Duke Energy has as much as tripled incentives for energy efficiency and demand response programs for customers in South Carolina. (Utility Dive)

  • In May, a new state law directed regulators “to require utilities to plan for and invest in all reasonable, prudent, and available” efficiency and demand-side management resources.

  • Duke said, thanks to a string of heat waves in the Carolinas this summer, it set a preliminary new combined utility system summer usage record of 35,269 MWh in June. It has some 87K customers participating in demand response programs in SC.
