The world’s largest vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) energy storage project just completed main construction, a notable step for China’s utility-scale, long-duration energy storage. (ESS News)
The ¥3.8 billion ($520 million) project features a 200 MW/1 GWh battery system coupled with a 1 GW solar farm. Together, the system can provide five hours of continuous discharge.
Once online, the project is set to generate 1.72 TWh of electricity each year and slash annual carbon emissions by over 1.6 million tons.
