Powin, a grid-scale battery manufacturer, filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday with more than $300 million in debt. (TechCrunch)
The company, which warned last week that it was on the brink of shuttering, uses lithium-iron-phosphate cells from China in its batteries. With no viable alternative domestic suppliers in the face of tariffs, Powin was forced to close up shop.
The company had recently ranked third in the US and fourth worldwide in terms of installed capacity.
