Goodbye meter reader? AES Ohio promising more efficient electric service with smart meter program

I can't believe we're still seeing articles like these in late 2022. If you'd asked me in 2012, I would have thought the whole country would have transitioned by the end of last decade, at the latest. But hey, given how underwhelming the benefits of smart meters have been, it doesn't hurt all that bad.
