Smart Grids have become potential targets for cyber threats which include virus, malware, ransomware, phishing attacks, etc. Impacts of cyber attacks on a smart grid system could be disastrous, leading to power outages, equipment failure, data breaches and even collapse of the critical smart grid infrastructure, with severe operational and financial implications. The presentation discusses advanced cybersecurity measures implementad by electrical utilities, such as Firewalls, Proxy Servers, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Intrusion Detection/ Prevention Systems (IPS/ IDS), and secure communications, to protect data and assets, including AI/ ML tools for early detection and prevention of of cyber threats.
This presentation was made during an international conference on Cyber Security in Jan, 2025, organized by the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP), in collaboration with CIGRE India, supported by Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
