“Digital innovation is a key enabler,” said one director of capital programs at a major power distribution network. “Digital investment is not an end in itself, it is a means to an end.”
What is being accomplished in the energy sector and what are the benefits to making the digital transformation? What challenges or concerns come from these benefits? Major utilities like Engie are embracing digitalization. The company just completed it’s digital transformation to the cloud and hopes to improve everything from customer experience to cybersecurity.
With the help of Sabio Group, a global digital experience transformation services specialist, Engie had a successful migration to the cloud 2 months ahead of schedule. “The speed of this migration demonstrates our proven methodology and extensive Genesys expertise. Migrating a customer of this size in just 10 months required close collaboration to understand ENGIE’s needs and deliver tailored solutions on time,” said Herve Racine, Country Manager for France, Italy and Morocco at Sabio Group. Sabio centralized and staggered the migration of Engie’s voice flows through its own data centers to minimize disruption. Among their services, the Sabio Group offers to assist utilities to leverage AI.
“AI obviously presents [a] tremendous challenge … it also presents tremendous opportunity,” said Department of Energy’s (DOE) new Office of Critical and Emerging Technology, Helena Fu. Fu oversees the coordination of the department’s AI, quantum computing and semiconductors research. We’ll have to wait and see what can be gathered from the DOE’s ‘physic-informed models.’ Advancing technology and the adoption of artificial intelligence is reshaping the energy sector. Fu believes it is an opportunity to bolster the nation’s grid.
