Letter from the Community Leader:
Focusing on energy efficiency is not a new idea. Utilities have implemented energy efficiency programs for years in an effort to help customers save money while minimizing the demand for critical and expensive resources. But in recent years, energy efficiency has taken a new level of importance in the power sector. Many of the existential challenges facing utilities can be at least partially addressed by energy efficiency:
- Blackouts and grid interruptions can be minimized when energy efficiency is maximized.
- The use of energy efficiency assists power providers in meeting their climate and decarbonization goals.
- Energy equity issues can be first attacked by providing low or no-cost efficiency upgrades to vulnerable customers.
These and other imperative focus areas rely heavily upon energy efficiency, not to mention the traditional benefits of energy efficiency programs: improving customer relations, helping affordability for customers and utility alike, and more. New goals don't just define this new era of energy efficiency. Instead, modern and innovative tools are coming online that unlock new possibilities for energy savings, everything from smart homes to digitalized monitoring to predictive analytics and more.Â
These exciting possibilities exemplify why Energy Central found it essential to focus our July Special Issue on this topic, "Managing the Future of Energy Efficiency."Â
In this Special Issue edition, you'll find the best insights submitted by Energy Central Community Members and professionals in the industry. I hope you take some time to read what they have to say!Â
As always, please remember that this publication of the articles and distribution of the Special Issue Newsletter is not the culmination of the discussion; instead, it's just where it starts. I implore you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to ask questions, share your thoughts, and connect with these great contributors. All the authors who submitted articles encourage you to leave comments, questions, and ideas in the comments section to which they can respond.Â
