A few months ago, the International Energy Agency (IEA) released a report titled Electricity Grids and Secure Energy Transitions. It outlines key obstacles facing the energy evolution, aptly focusing on the electrical grid and its pivotal role in keeping the world connected. While some have taken the report's findings as a sign that the transition to renewable energy is not viable, the ultimate intent of the research was to help identify a path forward.
IEA's report identified several actions that can be taken to help mitigate concerns. With its "grid delay" case that projected how cumulative carbon dioxide emissions would increase if we delay the necessary upgrades, the report highlighted how important policy planning and other industry involvement will be to avoid "delaying" development and modernization of the electrical grid.
