Call for Articles - Trends & Priorities in Utility Cybersecurity - [Energy Central Special Issue Series]

The utility sector continues on its march towards modernization and digitalization. While this evolution is largely a sign of progress, with utilities able to unlock new opportunities and utilize new tools to achieve the goals of clean, reliable, and affordable energy, the more interconnected nature of the grid brings about new potential vulnerabilities. Specifically, cybersecurity concerns are more present for utility leaders than they have ever been before, and the urgency with which to protect the digital assets on the grid from outside risks will only grow. 

Given this new reality in the utility sector, Energy Central has dedicated its April Special Issue to the world of cybersecurity, specifically on the "Trends & Priorities in Utility Cybersecurity." 

We want to hear from you! We are seeking stories, white papers, and case studies from our community for this Special Issue Edition.  We are especially looking for insights on the following topics: NERC/CIP Standards, FERC Regulations, Data Security, Securing the Grid, Emerging Threats, and more.

Our Special Issues present a unique opportunity for you to share your experiences with peers in the industry and perhaps even help kickstart conversations that help you and others uncover new potential solutions and opportunities to areas of the business management side of the utility that you may be overlooking. 

Below are a few topic prompt ideas to get you started:

• Among competing cybersecurity priorities at utilities, how are decisions made on where to invest? 
• What role does the regulatory landscape play on cybersecurity programs and where should public policy step in to require even tighter cybersecurity requirements?   
• What is your utility doing to ensure the tight cybersecurity practices are utilized by employees across the utility enterprise? 
• What are the new and emerging technologies that are going to unlock new opportunities for cybersecurity protection?  
• What missteps have you seen taken in the utility cybersecurity space and what has that taught you about best practices moving forward?  

With your submission to the April 2022 Special Issue on 'Trends & Priorities in Utility Cybersecurity,' we invite you to consider the list of topics and topic prompts above and participate in the group knowledge sharing and brainstorming process only available via the Energy Central Community.

We're inviting submissions from experts and leaders who have expertise in our Special Issue topic. This is an opportunity to share with your fellow community members your hands-on experiences and lessons learned, as well as predictions for the coming years.

Instructions for Participation:

Send your submissions to [email protected] with the subject ‘Trends & Priorities in Utility Cybersecurity.' If you need feedback on your submission idea, feel free to send questions or even an abstract to the same email address.  We are looking for more in-depth articles on this subject (5-10 paragraphs)- a little more than what you would typically share as part of a community blog post.
