NEWS: The DOE wants to rewrite appliance efficiency rules—and invest $150M in oil and gas.

  • More deregulation ahead: The agency is rethinking how it develops energy conservation standards for fridges, washing machines, and other home products. The goal? To “permanently end home appliance and equipment mandates that raise costs and disrupt consumer choice,” according to the DOE…but it’s uncertain whether the White House will actually end the appliance efficiency program as a whole.

  • Digging deeper into fossil fuels: Separately, the DOE is offering up to $150M for fracking and unconventional oil and gas recovery, among other projects. This cash injection comes just over a month after President Trump announced $700M in funding for US coal production.
