NEWS: Newest big U.S. coal-plant offline until 2027

  • Texas’s 932-MW Sandy Creek plant—the last large coal facility built in the country—suffered a catastrophic failure in April and isn’t expected back online until March 2027, according to ERCOT.

  • It’s the second time since 2011 that a major failure at Sandy Creek has rendered it unable to operate for a year or more.
