While we’re on Big Tech: Meta is building data centers so massive they require their own dedicated gas-fired supply. (Heatmap)
CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed Meta’s Prometheus facility in Ohio will top 1 GW when it goes live in 2026. Its Louisiana counterpart, Hyperion, may hit 5 GW.
To keep up, Meta is sourcing electricity from at least 2 GW of new gas-fired generation, plus 800 MW of renewables. Ohio’s getting two 200 MW gas plants just for Prometheus. In Louisiana, Entergy is pitching another 1.5 GW in gas near Hyperion.
