Georgia Power wants to meet its data center boom with a gas boom of its own. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
The utility is asking regulators to approve 10,000 MW of new generation—most of it natural gas—to meet what it calls “unprecedented” demand from the state’s fast-growing data center market.
That’s a 42% increase in generation capacity, with 60% of the new build tied to gas plants. Less than half would come from solar, storage, or other carbon-free sources.
