NEWS: 24 States Sue the E.P.A. for Renouncing Its Power to Fight Climate Change

Two-dozen states are suing the EPA for rescinding the endangerment finding. (NYT)

  • Quick context: Without the finding, the EPA lacks legal authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles, power plants, or oil & gas operations.

  • The coalition is led by Massachusetts, California, New York, and Connecticut, and also includes a dozen cities and counties. They argue that the EPA failed to offer a new scientific or legal precedent to justify the reversal, and hope to reinstate the finding.

  • The Trump admin’s end goal? Landing the case in the conservative-majority Supreme Court, according to legal experts, which could uphold the finding’s repeal.
